The fishing harbour of Calp has been in use for centuries but in 1924 a fisherman guild was established to help protect the livelihood of the small fisherman. The fish auction which is held on monday’s and friday’s sell local fisherman catch’s of upto 40 different species of fish, crustaceans as well as Octopus and various types of squid. The habour also provides site seeing trips by boat taking people out on the brilliant blue seas and fantastic coastline.
Calpe or Calp has it’s own ‘old town’ nestling in the shade of the modern apartments with restaurants and local museums always good for a family day out. The eco trails are great for walkers taking in land routes across the fabulous bay and up to the top of the rocky promontory’s of which there are two, one at each end of the bay.
There are boat and car hire available for those who are adventurous explorers and would like to explore further up the coast or inland.
For golf lovers there are 6 golf courses within a 20km drive of Calpe, several only approx 7-8km away (about 3 miles) and with car hire so cheap Calpe is the perfect get away with golfing and sailing in the Spanish sun and lots of great relaxing evening entertainment of restaurants and bars. Calpe also has a sizable British expat population who can advise on the best locations for fishing, swimming and entertainment.
